Was in Albany to get away for a few days. Came across this little gem. We had the beef stew with rice and beans. The meat was nice and tender and seasoned just right. Nice and friendly staff.
The moral of this story is to read all the Yelp reviews. I was inspired by Josh K. But missed the warning by Otis M. So I fell into the same trap as Otis. My lunch of delicious yellow rice with roast pork, beans, and plantains set me back just shy of $12. But it was a mountain of food. It was clear from the start that no human being should consume that volume of carbs, protein, fat, and sodium in one sitting. So I asked for a to go container immediately. What I should have done is the old trick of putting half of the food in the takeaway box straight away. Instead I ate about two thirds of the food, and packed the rest up to take home. Amazingly, when heating up the leftovers for my son, that third of my lunch made a full sized dinner plate at home. Which means my lunch was two dinner plates worth of food. Egads! But according to Otis, there is some kind of lunch portion. I'd welcome some more clear signage about that. However, my son loved the leftovers enough that he and I may return for a family meal. Should we make that outing, the two of us will be splitting one plate, and it's unlikely we'll finish the whole thing. More isn't always better. If the portions were smaller, I would find a way to come to this spot more often. But as it is, this will be an occasional treat for when I'm feeling like overindulging in some latin soul food.
Very tasty Dominican food for Albany. We got the yellow con beans with platnotano maduro and broccoli. Also we had the chicken in broth, rice and beans. The chicken was a little dry but everything else was great. Nice and quiet place and you can takeout food as well. The workers were very nice and spoke both Spanish and English. My Hispanic girlfriend approve of the food and we would definitely come back.
Authentic Dominican yumminess!! I am highly impress with the service and food I received today. This is not my first time here, last time was about 3 years ago and at that time I was dissatisfied. But, today I feel differently the food was full of flavor I had the yellow rice, beans, plantinoes, roast pork and balla de papa( potato ball with meat deep fried). I ordered a large which was huge and could've fed myself and my husband. Prices were good, nice place to dine in.
Place was Authentic. I'm half Dominican and half Puerto Rican. Three of us kept it simple had arroz con guandules, maduros, and baked chicken. We each had some passion fruit or tamarind juice. Only disappointment was no beer. But the food was Great!
